To celebrate Valentine's Day, the Madison's Mission team visited the elementary school for a love-filled afternoon of arts and crafts and story-reading.
We arrived at 2:10pm and began to set up for our arts and crafts activity while catching up with our friends. In the Valentine’s Day spirit, we made little heart chains with drawings of what each person loved. The kids chose from many different colors and cut out their own paper heart as big or as small as they liked! After they finished decorating the heart, we helped them tie it onto a string. Some of the kids were very creative and decided that they wanted to use the string to make a necklace instead! At the end of the craft session, there were bits of colorful paper scattered around the table, long chains of hearts, and a few glamorous necklaces.
Once the kids finished, they eagerly helped us clean up and prepare for our Valentine’s Day themed story! The book, Words and Your Heart by Kate Jane Neal, was about words and showing your love and care for the people around you by saying kind things and being mindful. The kids thought the art was cute and were captivated by all the unique illustrations in the book! With the extra time remaining, we all played a matching game at which the kids proved to be quite expert! The end of the day quickly approached and the kids left with a smile on their faces.
This activity was once again enjoyable and successful! It was exciting to see that the kids remembered us and we were glad that they had fun and were able to show some love during this holiday! We hope to continue spreading this joy and appreciation through our future activities with the kids!
