Winter Baking 2023 Video

On December 21, 2023, the day before winter break began, the Madison’s Mission team went to our local elementary school to host a festive cookie baking activity for the multiple disabilities class. We arrived at 2pm and began setting up the three big bags of materials and presents: an assortment of cookie cutters, three sprinkle color choices, and mostly importantly the cookie batter (which we pre-made!). Once we finished setting up the activity, the kids came in and we introduced ourselves. Then, the cookie making began!

My team and I went around and aided our friends Reese, Danny, Brooke, and Keira. They were very talented and loved the smell of the batter. We would hold fun conversations about cookie making, and they all created amazing cookies! Some of the kids ended up with pink hands because of all the sprinkles they used! There were hearts, trees, gingerbread men, and dog treat sugar cookies! After the kids made their first batch, we began to put the cookies in the oven as they worked on their second batch. After some time passed, we realized the aroma of sugar cookies wafting through the room. To our surprise, when we opened the oven, the cookies were burnt. We decided to let them cool and this time, carefully watched the next batch. Thankfully, the next batch of cookies was a success! All of the kids enjoyed their sugar cookies, and we put their leftovers in a custom designed baggie. We had them choose an extra pre-made cookie, either chocolate or chocolate chip, and they all chose an extra chocolate chip cookie! Our favorite gift giving session took place after the cookies were done baking. The kids all chose a unique stuffed animal to take home! They were all very excited and loved their stuffed animals.

Our event came to an end after our gifts were shared with the children. The goal for our first ever activity was to allow the kids to explore their creativity while also feeling the holiday joy! We encouraged them to make whatever shapes and colors they wanted, and made sure that they had enough resources to explore! The Madisons Mission team wanted to share the joy of giving by coming to the elementary school and hosting a fun cookie activity! We would like to thank all the staff and volunteers for making this event possible! We hope to come again and continue to make an impact on the community!
